Is it ok to toast slices of long bread?

I bought this toaster a few months ago at Canadian Tire because it was suppose to be "long lasting". About 6 weeks ago all of a sudden the leaver would not stay down. The light comes on when you hold it down, but it won't stay down. I am very disappointed

Do bagels have to be facing a certain way when toasting.. also does it matter which slot if only toasting 1 slice of bread
